Annavaram Satyanarayana Temple

Rising above the Pampa river on Ratnagiri hill, Annavaram is one of Andhra Pradesh's most-visited pilgrimage sites despite its comparatively recent 1891 founding, built following a vision recorded by a local landowner, Boddu Appalaswamy. The presiding deity, Satyanarayana, is worshipped as a truth-and-vow form associated with Vishnu, and the temple is especially known for continuous Satyanarayana Vratam ceremonies -- ritual vow-fulfilment pujas -- performed for pilgrim families throughout the day, a devotional practice that has become one of the most widely replicated Hindu domestic rituals nationally, with Annavaram as its most prominent pilgrimage anchor. The hilltop river-confluence setting adds scenic and ritual-bathing significance to the visit.
