Durgiana Temple

Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Amritsar

Other1921 CE reconstruction on an older site, funded by Guru Har SahaiDurga (with Lakshmi-Narayan shrine)

Durgiana Temple deliberately mirrors the Golden Temple's architecture, a marble causeway leading across a sarovar to a silver-doored sanctum, built in 1921 under the patronage of Guru Har Sahai on the site of an older shrine linked to Lava and Kusha, sons of Rama. The pairing of a Nagara-style shikhara with Sikh-derived silver repoussé work and the surrounding water tank makes it a rare example of cross-tradition architectural borrowing in Punjab, reflecting Amritsar's shared Hindu-Sikh urban fabric. The temple houses shrines to Durga and to Lakshmi-Narayan, and its Diwali illumination, synchronized with the Golden Temple's, draws large crowds. For art-history travellers it is a case study in how devotional architecture migrates across religious communities within a single city.
