Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir
Ayodhya Ram Mandir · Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple
The Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, consecrated in January 2024 in the traditional Nagara idiom using pink Bansi Paharpur sandstone, occupies a site whose ownership was contested for generations and finally settled by the Indian Supreme Court in 2019 after decades of litigation and, before that, a demolition in 1992 that reshaped modern Indian political history. For art-history travellers the interest lies less in age than in the deliberate revival of classical temple-building craft: artisans and stone carvers from Rajasthan and other traditional centres were commissioned to execute the three-storey shikhara and sculpted pillars to historical Nagara proportions. As the newest major addition to India's pilgrimage landscape, it now anchors Ayodhya's wider redevelopment as a pilgrimage town alongside older sites like Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan.
